Durham College Esports

Esports

2023 - 2025

The objective was to build an engaged esports community from the ground up and establish Durham College as a competitive presence in collegiate gaming. The program needed consistent content across multiple platforms, live tournament production capabilities, and a strategy to grow and retain an active student community.

Process

Community Building: Launched Discord server and Instagram account from zero, creating daily content that resonated with competitive gamers. Developed engagement strategies including interactive polls, player spotlights, tournament announcements, and community-driven initiatives.

Live Broadcast Production: Led production for weekly Twitch tournament broadcasts, designing custom stream overlays, graphics packages, and audience interaction features. Managed multi-camera setups and real-time content creation during competitive matches.

Content Strategy: Produced 4-6 social posts per week across Instagram, TikTok, and Discord, combining short-form video highlights, match recaps, and player features. Created content calendar aligned with tournament schedules and competitive gaming trends.

Player Relations: Served as primary liaison between competitive players, coaching staff, and program administration, managing feedback loops and ensuring effective communication.

Outcome

Grew esports community to 4,500+ followers across Instagram, Twitch, Discord, and Twitter with 87% increase in engagement. Established consistent weekly tournament broadcasts with professional production quality.
